TERRANAUT WatchBy: Dale Rollinson London
Our mantra is that no element of the presentation for TERRANAUT watches is over-looked.
The Display Case with Carbon Fiber represents the finishing touch to the XL 50MM collection – the completion of that goal.
Your pledge will fund investment in the first batch of production of the Display Case with Carbon Fiber.
The forthcoming carbon fiber boxes, funded with your support, will be the standard case provided with a TERRANAUT watch. Although typical for a TERRANAUT, it will be a premium offering in comparison with what you get from other watch brands.
This is a one-time-only, now-or-never opportunity. Without your help, we will be forced to scale-down our ambitions for the display case. In that case it will simply be just a typical wooden box that you would get from any other watch manufacturer.
Perhaps in 2-3 years’ time, as you revisit the latest offering from TERRANAUT, you’ll notice the Display Case with Carbon Fiber and say “I helped to make that happen”.
All watches purchased as part of this appeal will receive an upgrade to the ALL TERRAIN STORAGE CASE, for which we would normally charge £50.
So, why not provide that case with our watches? It’s impractically large for stockists to keep on their shelves, it’s costly to produce and then expensive to ship due to the size (check out the measurements in one of the pledges).
With your pledge you are guaranteed to get the watch you want, and you will receive it in a timely manner.
TERRANAUT is a new XL watch brand created by Time Is Precious Ltd, a British distributor of premium luxury watches since 2003. TERRANAUT manufactures tough & high-tech, oversized watches.
XL watches are a trend that’s here to stay, a trend that we’ve followed since its very inception. We wanted to explore whether it was possible to make an XL watch that was as comfortable to wear as a traditionally-sized timepiece. In the XL 50MM, we retracted the lugs right back underneath the back of the case, this gives a ‘footprint’ on the wrist equivalent to wearing a 42-45mm watch.
The watch strap is then beautifully ‘framed’ against the case. In our experience, the strap is so often left as an afterthought by watch manufacturers, even though the strap makes up 60%-70% of the total surface area of your watch.
The TERRANAUT strap is made in a wholly independent factory from the watch case; a specialist watch strap manufacturer. This costs us more, but results in a higher quality strap, which is more comfortable thanks to thicker padding, and will last longer.
Our first collection of watches is the XL 50MM – named to indicate the width of the watch.
Specifications include a genuine carbon fiber dial with a generous helping of C3 SuperLuminova ™ for the numerals & hands. The Quartz Chronograph with oversized 60 seconds counter is serviceable by any Jeweller. The bespoke leather premium strap has thick padding & carbon fiber detail on the upper, with ‘Panerai’-style polished steel buckle. There are four variations:
50.CF.60S: Brushed steel case and polished steel bezel, pushers & crown. Numerals associated with the timing of 60 seconds with red needles.
50.CF.24H: Brushed steel case and polished steel bezel, pushers & crown. Numerals associated with the priority indication of night-time hours.
50.CF.2T.60S: Brushed steel case and black PVD steel bezel, pushers & crown. Numerals associated with the timing of 60 seconds with red needles.
50.CF.2T.24H: Brushed steel case and black PVD steel bezel, pushers & crown. Numerals associated with the priority indication of night-time hours.
The RRPs are not yet confirmed, but expected to commence at less than £300 RRP, with a nominal extra amount for the 60 seconds dials and then a higher price for the black PVD versions. The TERRANAUT XL 50MM with Nubo Glow-in-the-Dark strap will be priced at less than £400 RRP.
As we are offering the watches in exchange for your pledges at sometimes close to cost price, the quantities available are limited.
The next development for the TERRANAUT XL 50MM, presently in the prototype stage, is the 26mm leather strap with Glow-in-the-Dark stitching.
As far as we know, a Glow-in-the-Dark strap is unique and has never been seen before in the watch community. They could be the next big trend in the world of watches and you’re seeing them first – right here – with TERRANAUT.
Some of the pledge opportunities available give you the first chance of grabbing one for yourself before they are ready for general release – this may not happen for many months to come.
Back when I was selling vintage watches, Norman Lee (the man behind ‘Nubo’) was a customer of mine from Canada. He hand-makes watch straps from vintage WWII leather. Those, his signature straps, retail for in excess of $175. I loved the uniqueness and quality, so I pledged to find a way to work with him again in the future. The ruggedness of the XL 50MM is a perfect match for his macho straps.
The strap for the XL 50MM employs supple leather instead of vintage leather, in accordance with the goal of greater wearer comfort, and with the Glow-in-the-Dark stitching it’s a perfect complement to the extensive luminous on the XL 50MM.
Additional spring bars are included for changing the straps – a task you’ll find really easy on the XL 50MM!
Especially for our PleaseFund.us campaign, the Glow-in-the-Dark straps will be serial numbered from a collection numbering 25 pieces. Please leave a comment to request the serial number you want on a first-come, first-served basis.
If you’re making a pledge as a resident of Britain or Europe, your pledge will include VAT and Royal Mail shipping. For pledges coming from the USA, Canada and other International countries, your pledge does not include VAT but instead includes from $60 for the cost of shipping with DHL Express couriers. Therefore all pledges are for a similar amount, regardless of your location.
If our appeal ends with us meeting our target, no matter where you are, the shipping transit time is only 1-4 days.
I appreciate that you want to get your watch practically as soon as you’ve paid for it even if you live in the USA or Canada. In partnership with DHL we can finally give you this level of service.
TERRANAUT is the first watch brand to be developed by Time Is Precious Ltd, a British distributor of premium luxury watches since 2003. Time Is Precious Ltd has been distributing XL watches since the very inception of the trend. We offer competitive reseller prices for representation in the UK, Europe and United States.
XL watches are now a well-established, profitable opportunity for jewellery businesses.
What is unique about TERRANAUT is we make oversized luxury fashion watches with high quality straps, which are designed to be as comfortable to wear as traditionally-sized timepieces.
Any jeweller with space in their inventory, who wants to take advantage of the trend for extra-large watches and has built their business on customer satisfaction, will appreciate TERRANAUT watches. Your customers will be less likely to return their watch because it’s too big to wear; they are making a sensible watch purchase they can enjoy every day, not just for special occasions.
If you would like to know more, please email me at: firstname.lastname@example.org
P.S. Remember to post a message when you’ve selected an XL 50MM with a prototype Glow-in-the-Dark strap to indicate the serial number you’d like. If two or more people request the same number, the first person is allocated it.

Conclusion and where to buy your XL 50MM:
Even though the campaign was unsuccessful, I've come to realise that the ALL TERRAIN STORAGE CASE is the BEST presentation box! So, all we need to do is to manufacture it in a smaller size next time!
Our marketing activities did introduce people to TERRANAUT, so ultimately that may be the most important legacy of the campaign. I appreciate the efforts of the PleaseFund.us team to notify their subscriber base, but sadly that was too small an audience.
All four variations will be available to buy at amazon.co.uk for a short time at the 'PleaseFund.us' rates. You won't be able to get the double-watch combinations with a Nubo strap at Amazon, but you can directly from us.

This is by no means BREAKING NEWS for many people subscribing to this campaign. However, it needs to be said that our project was picked up by Tech Crunch.
This was thanks to a fantastic article written by Patrick Kansa over at his watch blog (linked below), who described certain features of the XL 50MM eerily accurately despite having not yet seen the watch ‘in the metal’.
Hopefully other gadget blogs will pick up on the TERRANAUT press release eagerly recieved by Patrick, when it goes out again tomorrow.
Thanks again for all of your contributions.

Just a little mention of our twitter account as it’s easy to miss in the project overview.

Joe made a really good point - it’s not clear how to ‘leave a comment’ to request the XL 50MM variation you want.
So, please send me a quick note to specify your choice of:
...directly to me at this email address: firstname.lastname@example.org
If you’ve chosen a Nubo Glow-in-the-Dark strap, please let me know the serial-number you’d like.

We’re short on time, but still big on ambition.
With just 11 days remaining we can make this campaign successful as we’ve rocketed to 1/5th of the target over the previous two days. This is thanks to the media interest coming into fruition.
Even if you’ve already pledged, you can still make an even bigger difference by spreading the word on Facebook, Twitter & Google+.
I’ll be doing just that, sending targeted messages on Twitter, right up to the deadline.
