Team Traveller
By: , LondonTeam Traveller is a bike racing team, we aim to race around the world and spread the joy we get from riding our bikes.
This year we have taken on several ex professional cyclists who have been cut from cycling teams without notice due to "financial issues". We believe this isn't right or fair. We want to form a team which overcomes the transience of the pro cycling scene and provides a nurturing home for talent from around the world. To this end we have riders from the UK, Spain, Columbia, Moldova and Belarus. These guys wouldn't normally get the opportunities we want to give them, but they deserve them. They also deserve the chance to ride at the top level without sacrificing their future. The team is committed to developing skills which will empower riders and offer them a range of options to improve their employability and future prospects both inside and outside of the sport.
One of our team members, James Stout is a type one diabetic. He was told to give up cycling when he was diagnosed. Since then he's won races, raced on 4 continents and set records - all in competition against people who don't suffer from his condition. James is passionate about advocacy and wants to spread the word that diabetes isn't an excuse for doing badly but a reason for doing well. His website http://www.insulinandembrocation.com has more info on his mission to get insulin and supplies to diabetics all over the world and to eliminate childhood blindness due to lack of diabetic supplies.
All funders get access to cheap team bikes and kit at the end of the year, planning of our schedule and access to riders for questions/ ideas.
We'll also be leveraging our fanbase of over 12,000 twitter followers and access to global publics in order to help promote our team and our partners.
Here's how our funding breaks down; we need a LOT more than 6 grand but, this is what we need to get off the ground and get us going. This will cover the following costs for our elite team;
Bikes 4,000 (thanks to a great sponsor deal)
Licences 500
Kits 1,000 (it's important that we acquire 100% full body zebra-lycra)
Race entries for the first 3 months of the season 500
After this we'll hopefully have made enough of an impact to be pulling in more money. We aim to continue using pleasefund.us to raise money for specific races on our plan. Most races will cover our lodging and food so the costs will be transport and race logistics.
These races include;
USA criteriums Super week
Tour of America's Dairyland
24 hours of Old pueblo (Arizona USA)
Tour of Tobago
Bay crits (Australia)
and more, in each race we will be highlighting the contributors who got us to that event with videos, blogs and tweets. So stay tuned!
