By: Frederika Adam LondonLive Webstreaming of Real Tennis & Rackets: Giving Niche Sports a Presence on the Internet.
Producing for television is too expensive for many of the the traditionally amateur and uncommercial sports - from village cricket to a top level Rackets match. Internet Broadcasting (webstreaming) immediately gives the sport a new, identifiable and interactive audience and fan base.
In October 2010, Paul Brown and photographer Frederika Adam started the Realtennis.tv website to provide a space and a service that films a sport professionally while giving each sport a marketable identity to attract a new online audience. So far we have webstreamed five events: The “Test” Event (Fahey vs Vigrass at Lord’s), the Dedanists’ Legends Q&A Dinner (Queen’s), The second day of the Varsity Real Tennis Match (Lord’s), the European Open Semi-Final and Final (Lord’s) and the Second Leg of the Rackets World Championship Doubles (Queen’s). All of these events are made available to view Live or in the Archive FOR FREE on www.realtennis.tv
To see Real Tennis of the highest quality go to our site and watch the European Open final between Bryn Sayers and world champ Rob Fahey. Real tennis is the ancient form of the game which originated in medieval times. Modern Tennis is a Victorian derivation. Rackets started off as a prison yard version of fives with Real Tennis racquets and modern squash is an off-shoot.
For niche sports like Real Tennis and Rackets, webstreaming online starts by immediately multiplying the number of viewers and with each event attracts greater audiences while enabling those in the sport to magically promote growth and get the word out to new audiences - many who have never played or even heard of these fantastic sports but who start watching because the sport is presented in an exciting and highly watchable way.
We believe webstreaming is the future - at the moment, a kind of DIY television programming - and Paul and Freddy need your help to keep our costs to a minimum and to produce two important events in Manchester in October and December 2011.
About Paul, Freddy & Realtennis.tv
Paul oversees the technical operations, business arrangements and the crew (our streaming partner is Media on Demand http://www.mediaondemand.net) while Freddy oversees the filming, content, scheduling and direction of the broadcasts.
Realtennis.tv aims with each event to bring together the sporting community to present a live event that celebrates the sport. Each event requires an enthusiastic crew of experts to commentate and present the broadcast, real tennis or rackets volunteers to mix live or interact with viewers online along with our crew of technicians from Media on Demand.
Raising money through Pleasefund.Us will enable us to buy some of our own kit and will keep our costs down. It will also help with our travel and set up costs for future events in the calendar.
In the longer term it will enable us to film on demand, at short notice and encourage new sports such as: eton and rugby fives, squash, rowing and for other university and school sports post the 2012 Olympics.
As our pledges show, if we raise the money, we will webstream live from Manchester Tennis & Racquet Club both the IRTPA UK Professional tournament (Real Tennis) and Amateur Singles (Rackets) this October and December (respectively).
Support, Pledge and See two completely new Real Tennis & Rackets events live for this coming season! There are some event-oriented pledges for you Mancunians!
No updates for this project yet.
