Banksy Preservation Society

By: Jacob Green-Smith   Canterbury

I intend to set up an organisation that seeks out street art by the graffiti artist Banksy and installs Perspex over the artwork to protect it from vandalism and theft. Over 75% of his artworks are destroyed, stolen or vandalised (See Below). We aim to stop this and hopefully at the same time help turn the streets of the UK into art galleries; street artworks by Banksy are extremely valuable and need to be protected. We don’t support vandalism, but we do support a great artist.
Finding Banksy art in London is like trying to find a needle in a haystack – everyone knows it’s there, but very few people can actually point to it. Even though Banksy is certainly one of the most famous characters of modern art, he definitely fancies the mystery around his work – meaning that despite his popularity, no one knows where he is going to leave his mark next, and what controversial message it’s going to be about. While much of his art has been either destroyed or painted over (or even auctioned!), there are still some of them remaining in the Greater London, which are available for the pleasure of your eyes.

Plans for the Funds?

We plan to use the funds we hope to raise to pay for a group of art lovers to travel London and Bristol tracking down and protecting Artwork by the legend that is Banksy. We know we are asking for a lot but considering an everyday WALL by him sold for £208,100 we are confident that we can raise that sum and get to work ASAP protecting the Street Art by Banksy
