Project Round Up
With the deadline for the Creatives Grants approaching, there has been a recent influx of projects uploaded to the platform; all of which are placed in very different categories, and all of which could be potential winners of that £5000 grant money.
Documentaries, computer games, musical theatre, film, books, (naughty) baking… we’ve got it all. But what can you get out of it? Well… we’ll tell you…
For the Kids…
Teach Your Children To Love Learning. That’s GlobeLand Magazine’s goal. If you’ve got children then it might be your goal too. With 10 annual editions published every year, this bright and colourful magazine brings reading to life with the realisation of learn and play for children, making reading FUN! For £10 you can get yourself 2 copies of the magazine. On the other hand, you might be wanting to encourage your kids to be slightly more technical. In that case, you may share Mark Harditsy’s dream to teach young people the skills they need that the videogame, and other high-tech industries require. Mark hopes to rectify the failings of the British education system and bring the art of Videogaming to life in schools. Games Britannia is a Schools Videogame Festival that enables children to participate in all aspects of gaming, as well playing the consoles themselves. They’ll even get an introduction into designing their own games!
For the Thespians…
We have a student film production, a feature length documentary, and a musical drama of a wartime poet: All of which have something different to offer.
You can see the premiere of The Golden Chain at the Edinburgh Filmhouse, along with set of limited edition production stills and a copy of the special edition DVD. The film explores the doubts of a set designer who finds it difficult to voice her true feelings in the theatre world that is surrounded by bitchiness, insincerity and gossip.
Perhaps thought, you’re more concerned with factual movie making; factual movie making with a cause in fact. If so then your pledge to Mass e Bhat could ultimately help launch a national trade union for child labourers in Bangladesh. This feature-length documentary weaves together the stories of a group of children working and living in Bangladesh, which in turn paints a portrait of a developing nation through the eyes of its children. The film has already received support from Channel 4 BRITDOC Foundation and it is officially partnered with War On Want and NGWF. With your support, this social action campaign can officially launch.
If neither of these are your cup off tea, how about the world's first musical drama production based on the life and work of war poet Wilfred Owen. Bullets and Daffodils is a production that brings Wilfred Owen's poetry into the modern world. If you are unable to make it to any of their productions you can easily pledge for a CD of the musical. There’s even an original set of prints of Wilfred Owen on offer by the artist Sally Ronchetti, framed by the Wilfred Owen Museum.
Pick Of The Week

These naughty nibbles might not appear very appetising, but they’ve definitely got people talking. Within 24 hours of being uploaded to the platform, The Pocket Book of Vagina Cakes had been shared over 600 times on Facebook. I’m not sure whether it’s got something to do with Dawn French’s infectious laugh, or simply being intrigued to see what’s inside that censored box…but for £10, you might just find out!
There are other rewards on offer too. If you’re struggling for ideas for a Valentine gift, then we suggest having a closer look…
